The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 - Official Trailer

The Summer I Turned Pretty – Season 3 (Episodes 1–5) Spoiler-Heavy Summaries

EP1 – “Last Season”

  • Time Jump to College: The story leaps ahead ~3 years. Belly begins her freshman year at Finch College alongside best friend Taylor, while Jeremiah enters what should be his senior spring – only to discover he’s a few credits short of graduating on time. Belly is offered a coveted study-abroad semester in Paris, but Jeremiah’s setback makes her hesitate to commit to leaving him for that long.

  • Steven and Taylor’s Secret Fling: Steven and Taylor had broken up and even started dating new people (Steven’s with a girl named Mia, Taylor with a guy Davis), yet a chance reunion in New York rekindles their old flame. They begin secretly seeing each other again behind their current partners’ backs – a messy little love triangle brewing on the side.

  • Conrad Can’t Let Go: Over in California, Conrad is in med school but clearly not over Belly. He even admits to a friend (Agnes) that Belly was his first and only true love – explaining why he’s avoided coming home since Susannah’s death. Conrad remains distant and dodges plans for Susannah’s upcoming memorial, unable to face Belly or those memories just yet.

  • Betrayal Exposed: At a frat party, Belly overhears a sorority girl (Lacie) bragging about hooking up with Jeremiah in Cabo over spring break. This bombshell hits Belly hard – Jeremiah had told himself they were “on a break,” but Belly didn’t see it that way. Feeling devastated and betrayed, she confronts Jeremiah about his infidelity and ends their relationship on the spot. The episode closes with their painful breakup, setting the stage for turmoil to come.

EP2 – “Last Christmas”

  • Fallout and a Tragic Accident: In the wake of Jeremiah’s betrayal, Belly cuts off contact with him (even avoiding Taylor, since Lacie is in Taylor’s sorority). Jeremiah, beside himself with regret, tries to explain but Belly refuses to take him back. Emotions run high for everyone – Steven dumps Mia, hoping to be with Taylor, but during a tense car ride Taylor demands he let her out. Moments after Taylor exits, Steven crashes the car. He’s rushed to the hospital in critical condition, having suffered a cracked rib and a serious concussion that puts him in a brief medically induced coma. Taylor is distraught, blaming herself for the accident.

  • Conrad’s Setback: Upon hearing of Steven’s accident, Conrad tries to help from afar by asking his supervisor (Dr. Namazy) to call the hospital for updates. Unfortunately, his worry causes him to mislabel a blood sample at work. Conrad is fired from his lab job on the spot for the mistake – a crushing professional blow, though it frees him to return to Cousins sooner than planned. Conrad confides in Agnes about how heavily he carries his feelings, hinting at how Belly still weighs on his heart.

  • Secrets and Reawakened Feelings: While Steven lies unconscious, Taylor tearfully confesses her love to him at his bedside. Meanwhile, Belly has a reflective flashback to last Christmas: it turns out she and Conrad shared a tender secret moment during the holidays. Belly had gone to Cousins alone and ended up snowed in with Conrad; after a playful night (where she tripped and he carried her to the couch), she woke to find Conrad gone but a note on her crossword puzzle reading “P.S. I ___ love you.” Belly filled in the blank with “still,” realizing Conrad was confessing he still loved her. (She never told Jeremiah about this encounter.)

  • Reconciliation and a Proposal: Laurel and her ex-husband John complicate things by drunkenly sleeping together at a conference during all the chaos, leaving them awkwardly out of touch. Once Steven pulls through and wakes up (the swelling in his brain subsides), Taylor resolves to break up with Davis and be with Steven for real. Finally, Belly and Jeremiah reunite in the hospital lobby after days of heartbreak. Jeremiah comes clean and apologizes profusely – even dropping to his knees begging for forgiveness. Belly still loves him and, after their emotional heart-to-heart, she forgives him (she even apologizes for her part in their fight). The two agree to start fresh… and Jeremiah suddenly proposes marriage. Caught up in the moment, Belly says “yes” to the engagement, despite their families (and Conrad) knowing nothing of this dramatic development yet.

EP3 – “Last Supper”

  • Hush-Hush Engagement: Belly and Jeremiah decide to keep their engagement secret at first, choosing to announce it when both families gather for Susannah’s memorial dedication in Cousins Beach. Belly can’t hold out for long, though – she promptly tells Taylor the big news. Taylor reacts with utter shock (blurting out, “Oh my God, are you pregnant?!”), which offends Belly. Belly insists they’re in love and not rushing for that reason, then makes Taylor promise to stay quiet until after the ceremony.

  • Memorial Reunion: The families convene in Cousins for the dedication of Susannah’s memorial garden. To Belly’s frustration, her dad John skips the event (he and Laurel fear the kids will sense the awkwardness of their conference hookup). Despite initially refusing to come, Conrad shows up at the last minute – his friend Agnes convinced him he needed the closure. Jeremiah delivers a heartfelt speech honoring their mom Susannah, and Conrad stands quietly at the back, watching Belly as they see each other for the first time in a long while.

  • Engagement Bombshell: At the dinner following the memorial, tensions run high. Conrad and Jeremiah’s father, Adam, makes passive-aggressive comments – praising Conrad’s achievements and then pointedly grilling Jeremiah about his lack of post-college plans. Sensing Jeremiah is being belittled, Laurel tries changing the subject by toasting Belly’s upcoming semester in Spain (unaware Belly is wavering on that). Overwhelmed, Belly blurts out the truth: “He’s marrying me in August!” – announcing to all that she and Jeremiah are engaged. The reaction is explosive. Laurel and Steven are stunned and upset, voicing that Belly is too young; Adam reacts with angry disbelief; and Conrad is so shocked he says nothing, retreating outside in pained silence. Belly and Jeremiah suddenly find their joyful news met with total opposition from both families.

EP4 – “Last Stand”

  • Birthday Blues: It’s Belly’s 21st birthday, but she can’t even enjoy the Mickey Mouse pancakes Laurel makes – her only birthday wish was for her mom’s support in wedding dress shopping, and Laurel bluntly refuses to participate. Hurt but determined, Belly goes dress shopping without her: she spends the day with Taylor and Taylor’s mom (Lucinda). Belly does find a simple, elegant gown she loves, but her happiness is dampened knowing her own mom isn’t there to share the moment. In tears, she calls Jeremiah wondering “How are we supposed to do this without both our moms?” (Susannah and Laurel).

  • Work Woes and Secret Tensions: Jeremiah begins a summer internship at his father Adam’s finance firm, but the office culture is rough – coworkers tease him as a nepotism hire (“nepo baby”) and Adam piles grunt work on him. A small silver lining: Steven agrees to be Jeremiah’s best man, though Conrad pointedly ignores Jere’s calls about it. Meanwhile, Steven discovers that Taylor’s mom is in deep financial trouble (Lucinda’s vindictive ex racked up debt in her name). When Steven offers to help, Taylor bristles – she’s embarrassed and lashes out, ultimately declining Steven’s New York trip so she can stay home to support her mom. (Despite this friction, it’s clear Steven and Taylor still care about each other.)

  • Laurel Draws a Line – and Belly Runs: Jeremiah surprises Belly with an incredibly thoughtful birthday gift – he gives her a key to Susannah’s beloved beach house and brings flowers, trying to include Susannah’s memory in Belly’s big day. Even so, Laurel remains unswayed. She finally tells Belly (and Jere) point-blank that she cannot bless their marriage; in fact, if they go through with a wedding now, Laurel refuses to attend. This devastates Belly. Feeling betrayed by her mom, Belly makes a drastic decision: “Why wait until the wedding to say goodbye?” She packs a bag and runs off to Cousins Beach with Jeremiah that very night. (When Laurel discovers Belly has left, she’s distraught – exactly the outcome she feared.) Later, John confronts Laurel, and she finally confides the real reason behind her opposition: Laurel admits that marrying young (and having kids so early) made her lose her sense of self. She’s terrified Belly will make the same mistake and someday regret not discovering herself first.

  • Three’s Company in Cousins: Belly is shocked to find Conrad already at the beach house when she and Jeremiah arrive. (Having lost his summer job, Conrad quietly came home to Cousins, not expecting to find the new fiancés there.) The atmosphere is awkward and tense with all three under one roof. The next morning, Conrad and Jeremiah go surfing together and finally air out some feelings: Conrad bluntly tells his brother that rushing into a wedding at 21 is a bad idea, while Jeremiah snaps back that if Conrad can’t genuinely be happy for them, he doesn’t want him as best man at all.

  • Dreams Deferred: Caught up in wedding planning chaos, Belly makes a pivotal sacrifice: she decides to turn down her semester in Paris. She tells Jeremiah she won’t go abroad because she can’t bear doing long-distance right now. Rather than encourage Belly to pursue her dream, Jeremiah immediately agrees with her decision, relieved that she’ll stay – a response that secretly disappoints Belly. (Paris was Belly’s lifelong dream, and Conrad later notes it’s troubling Jere didn’t push her to follow it.)

  • Conrad Steps Up: That night, Conrad overhears Belly quietly crying herself to sleep – overwhelmed by the wedding drama, missing Susannah, and feeling abandoned by her mom. In this moment Conrad’s resolve cracks. He was on the verge of leaving town, but instead he decides to stay and be there for Belly. Conrad surprises her in the morning by baking her blueberry muffins for her belated birthday, and he tells Jeremiah he’ll remain in Cousins to serve as co–best man for the wedding. It’s a selfless gesture – Conrad is effectively agreeing to support the marriage, even as it breaks his own heart. Belly is overjoyed by this turn, leaping into Conrad’s arms in gratitude, while Conrad forces a smile and internally wonders “What have I done?” as the episode ends.

EP5 – “Last Dance”

  • Conrad & Belly’s Weekend Alone: This episode shifts to Conrad’s point of view, revealing the depth of his feelings. With Laurel and Taylor staying home and Jeremiah stuck late at work, Belly and Conrad end up spending the July 4th weekend largely by themselves in Cousins. Conrad busies himself with chores (at one point hammering shingles on the roof) and vows to keep a polite distance, but it’s impossible to avoid Belly in such close quarters. He reluctantly agrees to accompany her on various wedding errands – giving them their most extended one-on-one time since they broke up. Internally, Conrad is aching with “what might have been” regrets, even as he plays the role of supportive almost-brother-in-law.

  • Jeremiah Impresses Dad: Determined to earn Adam’s respect, Jeremiah remains in Boston to tackle a last-minute assignment at the investment firm. He uncovers a major accounting irregularity in a company they’re evaluating, saving his dad from a bad deal. This wins Adam’s praise (a rarity) and even a sort of approval of Jere’s engagement. Adam calls Conrad and Jeremiah with a proposal: he’ll pay for the entire wedding – but only if it’s held at his upscale country club, where he can invite his business associates. Jeremiah is thrilled that his father is “finally trying,” but for Belly, this offer comes with strings that make her uneasy.

  • Steven & Denise’s Adventure: Meanwhile, Steven heads to a gaming convention in New York with his coworker Denise. On the train ride they bond over video games and commiserate about their dead-end jobs, forming an easy camaraderie. (There’s a hint of mutual attraction – a potential complication, since Steven and Taylor just mended their relationship.) The trip subplot shows Steven having fun but also possibly realizing who he truly misses back home.

  • The Peach Stand Moment: While running wedding errands, Belly and Conrad share a heart-stopping intimate moment straight out of the books. On their drive back, Conrad (knowing Belly too well) stops at a roadside peach stand to cheer her up. Belly enthusiastically bites into a ripe peach and gets juice all over her chin – and Conrad instinctively lifts the hem of his T-shirt to gently wipe the peach juice from her face. The simple act sends both of their hearts racing. It’s an achingly tender beat that wordlessly reminds them (and Conrad especially) of the powerful chemistry they still have.

  • Fireworks and Unspoken Heartache: Jeremiah finally arrives in Cousins late that night and excitedly shares Adam’s wedding offer. Belly forces a smile as Jere explains his dad will cover costs “if we do it at the club with his work friends”. She had imagined a small, personal ceremony they could afford, so this lavish plan makes her uncomfortable. Still, not wanting to crush Jeremiah’s moment, Belly compromises and agrees to the country-club wedding idea. As the family watches the Fourth of July fireworks, Belly and Jeremiah dance on the dock, trying to celebrate. Conrad, however, watches from a window with his heart in pieces. In voiceover, he admits he’d “rather be shot with a nail gun repeatedly” than keep witnessing their romance. He remembers the promise he made to his dying mom – that he’d always take care of Jeremiah – and interprets it now as a command not to pursue Belly, no matter what. So Conrad stays silent, honoring his brother and hiding his own pain. The episode ends with Conrad alone and miserable in his room while Belly and Jere embrace under the fireworks. Each character is left questioning if they’re truly doing the right thing.

The Summer I Turned Pretty New Characters in Season 3

Easter Eggs in The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3

  • Season 3 Trailer & Color Symbolism: The teaser trailer uses Taylor Swift’s “Daylight” for Belly-and-Jeremiah scenes and then shifts to “Red” for Conrad’s, foreshadowing a color motif. Throughout Season 3, Belly’s wardrobe reflects this: she often wears blue in scenes with Jeremiah (echoing the lyric “losing him was blue”) and red during heartfelt moments with Conrad (“loving him was red”). Even the brothers’ surfboards in Episode 4 follow suit – Jeremiah’s board is blue while Conrad’s is red.

  • Episode 4 – “Gorgeous” Lyric Parallel: In Episode 4, Belly and Jeremiah get tipsy while floating in the pool and playfully mock Conrad’s manner of speaking – all within earshot of Conrad upstairs. Fans quickly noticed this scene mirrors a line from Taylor Swift’s song “Gorgeous”: “You should take it as a compliment that I got drunk and made fun of the way you talk.” The show included this as a cheeky nod to Swift’s lyrics even though the song itself isn’t on the soundtrack.

  • Season 3 Poster – Sabrina Homage: The promotional poster for Season 3 is a visual homage to the 1954 film Sabrina. In the poster, Belly is posed between Jeremiah and Conrad exactly as Audrey Hepburn’s Sabrina sits between two brothers in the classic film. Notably, in Sabrina the heroine ends up choosing the reserved older brother (played by Humphrey Bogart) who stands off to the side, rather than the younger one showering her with affection. This poster Easter egg – Jeremiah kissing Belly’s cheek on one side while Conrad gazes at her from the other – is seen as a deliberate clue mirroring Sabrina’s outcome and hinting at who Belly’s final choice might be.

  • Episode 2 – Dorm Room Posters: Belly’s college dorm decor contains sly references to her love triangle. For example, when her roommate Anika shuts the door, we glimpse a Bye Bye Birdie poster on the back – a fun detail since the musical’s leading man is named Conrad. Another poster on her wall is for the film Sabrina (Belly’s favorite classic movie, which she watched on her first date with Cam in Season 1), nodding to that film’s two-brothers love triangle as well. Both posters serve as hidden hints – one literally name-dropping Conrad, and the other recalling Sabrina’s theme of choosing between two brothers.

  • Episode 1 – Lara Jean and Peter Halloween Costumes: Early in Season 3, a montage of photos on Belly’s dorm wall reveals a sweet crossover Easter egg. In one Halloween photo, Belly and Jeremiah are dressed up as Lara Jean Covey and Peter Kavinsky, the main couple from Jenny Han’s To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before series. This meta-reference to Han’s other popular romance (Lara Jean and Peter were endgame in that story) is a playful nod for fans, though it remains a fun visual Easter egg rather than a guarantee of any particular outcome for Belly.

  • Episode 2 – Crossword Clue and Infinity Symbol: During Belly’s holiday stay at the beach house (Episode 2, “Last Christmas”), she finds a note from Conrad attached to a crossword puzzle he was solving. One clue in the puzzle reads, “Novel by author Jenny Han, P.S. I ____ Love You,” to which Belly pens in the answer “still” – a direct reference to P.S. I Still Love You, the sequel to To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. When the camera pulls back, the arrangement of the filled-in crossword and its reflection on the counter form the shape of an infinity symbol – a subtle callback to the infinity necklace and symbol that have recurred throughout Belly and Conrad’s relationship.

  • Episode 5 – Jenny Han’s Cameo (Voice): Jenny Han, the author and showrunner, continues her tradition of cameo appearances – but in Season 3 it’s easily missed. In Episode 5 (“Last Dance”), Han makes a voice-only cameo (her character is never seen on screen). She confirmed in interviews that it was indeed her voice in the background of one scene, admitting “it’s just my voice” and so tiny that she didn’t expect anyone to catch it without being told. (Han also popped up visibly in previous seasons – at the debutante ball in Season 1 and outside a shop in Season 2 – making this hidden voice cameo an Easter egg for eagle-eared fans.)

  • Episode 5 – Fourth of July Flashback Callbacks: The Conrad-centric Episode 5 is packed with callbacks to Season 1’s Fourth of July episode. Not only does Belly wear the same swimsuit she wore during the Season 1 fireworks scene (when she and Conrad almost kissed on the dock), but the episode recreates the scenario with a twist: this time Conrad watches Belly and Jeremiah together from afar, paralleling how, in Season 1, Jeremiah jealously watched Belly with Conrad (minus any firework pranks). The fireworks exploding overhead and other mirrored details serve as Easter eggs to show how far the trio’s story has come since that earlier Fourth of July.

  • Episode 5 – Pulp Fiction Dance on the Dock: In the final moments of Episode 5, Belly agrees to Jeremiah’s quirky choice of first-dance song – Chuck Berry’s “You Never Can Tell.” They dance together on the Cousins Beach dock under the fireworks, recreating the feel of an iconic pop-culture moment. This is an intentional homage to the famous twist contest scene in Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction (1994), where Uma Thurman and John Travolta dance to the very same song. Jenny Han even planted this detail in the third Summer novel (Jeremiah jokingly suggests using the Pulp Fiction song at their wedding in the book), making it a rewarding Easter egg for book readers and film buffs alike when Belly and Jeremiah actually dance to it on screen.

  • Episode 5 – The Return of Kayleigh (Adam’s Secretary): A seemingly throwaway detail in Episode 5 is actually a dramatic callback. Jeremiah mentions that his father Adam will pay for the wedding and that Kayleigh, Adam’s secretary, will help Belly plan it. Viewers who remember Season 2 will recognize Kayleigh as the woman Adam had an affair with during Susannah’s cancer relapse. In Season 3, Kayleigh reappears, cheerfully helping with wedding prep while Jeremiah remains unaware of her past with his dad. This hidden reference (confirmed by the showrunners) ramps up the irony and tension for fans in-the-know, foreshadowing potential conflict once that secret comes to light.

  • Episode 4 – Prom Dress Easter Egg: While Belly is trying on wedding gowns in Episode 4, there’s a blink-and-you-miss-it prop Easter egg nodding to her history with Conrad. Hanging just outside the dressing room is a powder-blue gown that looks almost identical to the prom dress Belly wore in Season 2 (when she attended the prom with Conrad). This background detail – Belly’s old prom dress positioned among the wedding dresses – quietly reminds viewers of Belly’s past with Conrad at a moment when she’s preparing to marry Jeremiah.

  • Recurring – Sour Patch Kids References: Belly’s favorite candy, Sour Patch Kids, becomes a running Easter egg in Season 3. In the Season 2 finale, there was a whole debate between Conrad and Jeremiah over Belly’s candy preference: Conrad correctly argued that Belly loves Sour Patch Kids (“She likes sour” candy) and joked that she thinks Swedish Fish “taste like candles”. Season 3 quietly callbacks this detail several times – from Sour Patch Kids wrappers appearing in scenes to Belly’s friend Taylor’s mom warning her not to give Taylor the “Sour Patch face” (a playful reference to a sour expression). Each instance is a small nod to that earlier candy discussion, reinforcing Conrad’s attentiveness to Belly’s likes in a fun way.

  • Episode 3 – Carrot Joke Payoff: A cute childhood callback is hidden in Episode 3. While sorting old photos for Susannah’s memorial, Laurel shows a picture of young Conrad with a plate of carrots, teasing Belly, “Remember when Conrad told you if you ate enough carrots, you’d get X-ray vision – and you believed him?”. Earlier in the episode, Belly’s best friend Taylor had pulled out an old wedding scrapbook they made as kids, which featured (of all things) a carrot cake on the menu. The carrot cake in the scrapbook and the carrot photo joke later on form a little Easter egg duo – a setup and punchline connecting Belly and Conrad’s past goofiness to the present. (Even the books note Jeremiah once called that carrot cake flavor “unconventional” for a wedding, a fun extra detail for those who’ve read them.)

  • Episode 3 – “No Surprises” Lyric Pun: The show’s music cues hide Easter eggs too. In the final scene of Episode 3, as Conrad stands heartbroken after learning of Belly and Jeremiah’s engagement, Radiohead’s “No Surprises” plays. The song choice seems pointed when the lyrics reach, “This is my final fit, my final bellyache, with no alarms and no surprises.” The word “bellyache” in the melancholy line doubles as a clever nod to Belly’s name and Conrad’s pain. It’s an intentional lyric pun – a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it bit of wordplay – underscoring Conrad’s gut-wrenching sorrow in that moment through the music.
